The goal of the Interdependent Living Program is to provide all adolescents making the transition from placement to independent living with the skills and resources necessary to make them self-sufficient and productive members of society. The Interdependent Living Program views self-sufficiency and productivity as the ability to maintain self-supporting employment and a stable living environment after being released from placement.
Through combined efforts, Family Services and Erie County Child Protective Services have designed and implemented a program that moves adolescents through a process from long-term placement to self-sufficiency through participation in a range of services. These services include individual counseling, life skills groups, assistance in enrolling in higher education, job preparation and retainment skills training, and assistance with obtaining suitable housing.
The referred adolescent must be ready, willing, and able to participate in the program and meet eligibility criteria.
Eligibility Criteria
To be eligible for the Interdependent Living Program, adolescents must:
- Be in placement on or after their 16th birthday. Eligibility continues to the age of 21.
- Reside in Erie County, Pennsylvania
- Be unmarried
- Be referred by Child Protective Services
